I Got All My Sisters With Me

redrikkiI never got into the original Charmed. Not sure why since the premise is sort of my jam, but I somehow failed to learn of its existence until long after it was just out-of-order reruns on TNT. Still, when I heard they were rebooting it, I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed.
Now I have some thoughts on the show this far and the mid-season finale.
The relationship between the sisters is great. Having the oldest sister, Macy, being raised separately from her sisters let's viewers learn about the family in a way which feels organic. The girl's evolving relationships are both heartwarming and fun to watch.
It's super timely. That might be an issue ten years down the road when it reruns on TNT, but for now I'm enjoying #me too demons and the Trump presidency as a sign of the apocalypse.
Macy is a virgin and, while her sisters are surprised, the only person to mock her about it is a literal demon. As a virginal aro-ace, I like the idea of an adult version who isn't a punchline. There's a guy she wants to date, but I'd love it if she came out as something on the ace spectrum. I'd care more about the magic troubles which keep her apart from her man of he were developed beyond hot science guy.
The second sister, Mel, is a lesbian. They erased her relationship with her long term girlfriend to save her life, which was disappointing, even if the scene was beautiful. They seem to be setting her up with a rogue witch. Here's hoping they hook up only for the original girlfriend to return for maximum angst.
Maggie took awhile to grow in me. It's been a decade since college, so a lot of her drama was hard for me to care about. The Parker plotline was interesting, if only because it tied back into the magic plot.
Overall, the show is fun. The effects can be laughable at times, but it is the CW.
This last episode was quite a ride, tying off some plots and setting up some others. I'd care more about Harry being trapped in he'll if they hadn't introduced him by having her kidnap the girls and then spent an entire episode where he was a suspect. Whatever. I'm sure the quest to get him back will be interesting.
